Today’s song is: Touch Me In The Morning by Diana Ross
This is exactly what I was hoping for! A song about morning sex! Man, if we’re being honest here (which we should be), I’m really not a fan of Diana Ross’ solo stuff, at least compared to her stuff with the Supremes, or her other collaborations (Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye, etc.). It’s not that it’s bad, it just can’t hold a candle to those iconic girl-group pop tunes she was famous for.
I’ve never heard this song before, but it’s basically exactly the problem I have with Diana Ross vs. Diana Ross and the Supremes. It’s slower and more soulful, less finger-snappy and what not. This seems like a number in the middle of a Broadway show set in the ’70s, the song sung by the female romantic lead’s best friend, right after she gets dumped. Not horribly memorable, but there’s one girl who tried out for all the musicals in high school who uses it for her auditions. It’s that kind of song.
And how about that album art, huh? It looks like she just finished or is just about to start crying. Then again, that’s the time period during which most Diana Ross songs are set, so I guess that makes sense.
